Fast paced, high fantasy story that was super fun to read. Esme was a likeable character that is trying to find her daughter. Definitely felt like the author did a good job at making us cheer for Esme. Rex was a complex character that despite the book not being super long we got a good glimpse into his backstory to see why he is the way he is.
Rex is a bounty hunter for hire who looks for those who need help extracting people from difficult and dangerous situations. He's in Texas looking for a mage who's killing other mages when he meets up with Esmerelda. They have a night then the next day he spots his target. To his surprise it's Esmerelda. When she tells him why she's doing what she is he is gobsmacked. He calls his boss and he also is gobsmacked. But this makes the situation doubly difficult and dangerous. Now they are on the trail to a madman who wants power and more power. Unfortunately this power hungry mage is her daughter's husband but she wants him dead and her daughter with her. Now Rex has secrets that could upset the hunt for the MC that works for that mage. Will he keep those secrets? Will she find out what he's hiding? What about the pull towards each and how that will work if at all?

Loved Rex and Esmeralda’s storyline ! It brings so much to the series .( It can be read as a standalone ). There is strength in numbers, while both lying to each other, they realize there is more to what’s going on between them then just their “jobs”. Heat levels rise as does the effort of the Hybrids to eradicate them and their family of choice. Scorching hot enemies to lovers 5✨’s.
